
SASHA SCHECHTER / Friends of Thirteen, Inc. at WNET
National Friends extends a very warm welcome to our newly-elected member of the Board of Trustees, SASHA SCHECHTER, who was elected at the National Friends annual membership meeting, January 26, 2015.
Sasha works as the Community Engagement Specialist for Friends of Thirteen, Inc. at WNET in New York City. Sasha came to WNET as an intern in July 2011, acting as Research Assistant to Neal Shapiro, President and CEO, WNET, and continued her internship through the completion of her bachelor's degree in Creative Writing from Oberlin College in May 2012. Sasha joined Friends of Thirteen in September 2012. As Community Engagement Specialist, her work focuses on program-related outreach events in local New York/Metropolitan Region communities, grassroots advocacy on Capitol Hill, engaging young volunteers to act as ambassadors for Public Media and organizing fundraising events and initiatives for WNET.
Prior to coming to WNET, Sasha held internships at both nonprofit and corporate organizations, including CLIC Sargent for Children with Cancer (National Events Team, Bristol, United Kingdom), the Oberlin College Creative Writing Department (Community Relations and Publicity, Oberlin, OH), Hope Street Kids (Grant Writing Team, Washington, DC), Colgate-Palmolive (Global Corporate Sustainability/Social Responsibility, New York City), LeadDog Marketing Group (Integrated Marketing, New York City) and the Office of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (Washington, DC).
