GREAT NEWS!
January 2014, Congress passed a spending bill that funded pubic media until September 30, 2014.
This victory was attributed to the supporters of "Protect My Public Media." They reached out to legislators and friends to spread the word about why public media matters. Supporters took a stand for hundreds of local public television and radio stations and the important services they provide to communities.
What's next?
Congress will soon begin to make funding decisions for spending after October 1, 2014. In fact, in the beginning of March 2014, the President will submit his budget to Congress. This document outlines the administration's funding priorities and begins spending discussions in Congress. We hope funding for public media is included. There will be key moments when supporters need to turn up the volume and ask members of Congress to support local public radio and television stations across the country.
What can you do today?
Protect My Public Media is looking to recruit future public media champions! Do you know three friends, family members of neighbors who are passionate about public media? Ask them to sign up at www.protectmypublicmedia.org and "like" them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter.
With every future public media champion that is recruited, we can be more prepared to secure funding for public media.
