VOLUNTEER MANAGEMENT AWARD The Volunteer Management Award is presented to a public media staff member that is responsible for overseeing volunteer activities. The award honors the accomplished individual that demonstrates outstanding administrative and people skills and maintains a highly effective bridge between the public media station's staff and volunteers resulting in a mutually productive relationship. |
JULIE SCHMIDT of KET TV in Lexington, Kentucky was chosen as the winner of the 2016 National Friends of Public Broadcasting Volunteer Management Award. She was nominated by Shae Hopkins of KET who said:
"Julie's expert leadership over the past decade has resulted in a highly engaged, active and effective Friends Board and has been integral in heightening awareness of KET's services and impact. This statewide grassroots support has strengthened KET's efforts with legislators and other stakeholders and helped preserve KET's funding. Julie has worked across Kentucky to find leaders in education and has put together the annual "KET |
Friends Day" at the capitol in Frankfort where the
Friends meet with legislators and the Governor to communicate the important services that KET provides. Julie has also supported the efforts of the Friends Board members, which includes Dan Griffith, who was the recipient of the 2010 National Friends Grassroots Advocacy Award. In her nomination, Shae also said, "Julie's marvelous talents strengthen KET and its services to support education and lifelong learning.
