The 2016 winner of the "Volunteers in Fundraising Award" went to the PALM BEACH LEADERSHIP COMMITTEE otherwise known as "Women with Wings and Wisdom."
Debra Tornaben of WXEL, who nominated them, wrote: "For thirteen years, the Palm Beach Leadership Committee for Women with Wings and Wisdom has helped raise million of dollars in support of their local PBS station while honoring local, national and international women who make a difference in the lives of others. The group started to honor women who have served the community by supporting many charities including the Palm Beach Opera, The Miami City Ballet and United Way -- to name a few. |
VOLUNTEERS IN FUNDRAISING AWARD This award is given to the Station or Volunteer/Friends group that demonstrates outstanding creativity and effectiveness in the use of volunteers in fundraising. The fundraising event has allowed them to communicate the mission of PBS and educate the attendees on how WXEL is a vital community, arts and education resource.
Since WXEL did not have an annual fundraising event in place, Debra Tornaben called on community leaders to help build a committee and today "Women with Wings and Wisdom" has won two NETA Awards for excellence and is one of the events of the season in Palm Beach. National Friends congratulates The Palm Beach Leadership Committee for "Women with Wings and Wisdom" that organized this highly successful fundraising group. |
