WALTER T. SCHMIT of Chicago's WTTW is another well-deserved recipient of the 2016 "Distinguished Service Award." Walter was nominated by Julie Dillon.
Julie's nomination told about Walter's help with WWTW's on-air membership drives since the 1980s! In 1994, Walter increased his commitment to WTTW by working weekly behind the scenes for both TV and their radio station, WFMT. Walter was responsible for a key part of the radio operations where he maintained the programming logs required by the FCC for a number of years. For the past 22 years, Walter has been responsible for packaging and mailing premiums, training new |
volunteers and assisting with pledge drive preparations.
Walter is ALWAYS ready to do whatever is needed: sometimes it's setting up lunch for 35 volunteers and staff, or perhaps it's filling the ice chest or making coffee; he will also be seen replenishing pledge forms and assembling volunteer pledge binders. Walter really knows his way around both WTTW and WFMT. Through years of experience, he knows what needs to be done without direction and his friendly face and acquaintance with more than 300 staff and volunteers make him a highly treasured volunteer! Congratulations to WTTW's WALTER SCHMIT. |
