NHPTV Auction Volunteers
Nominated by Judy Pinkham
Director of Auction
The Annual Spring Auction at New Hampshire Public Television is the largest fundraiser and community outreach event managed by the station. This 42-year tradition is managed by a paid team of two (Director and Coordinator) and hundreds of volunteers from all over the State of New Hampshire. It would be impossible for this crucial event to take place without the volunteers who donate their time, talent and energy to every aspect of this event.
Starting in January, volunteers come to the station to help enter donations into our database, write copy, proof documentation and copy for every item that will be presented during the eight nights of LIVE Televised Auction. We have a team of volunteers who criss-cross the state to pick up items from our donors - driving through all sorts of weather and terrain to get us the donations. Professional photographers donate their time to photograph each item, local radio personalities provide voice over work for our "big ticket" items and the list goes on and on.
And then there is the actual Auction. We have roughly 200 volunteers EACH NIGHT of the Auction (until 2015, 10 nights in a row!!) from 5 pm-1 am, helping on the phone decks, camera, behind the Auction boards, confirming high bidders, providing customer service to high bidders coming to pick up their items. And for FIFTEEN days, we have another team of 20-25 volunteers who process all the paperwork required for each item. Our auctioneers and hosts are ALL volunteers from the community.
I can't say enough about this group of people. Some come for one night. Others are here 5, 7 or 10 nights. Then there are volunteers, who come with their Moms and Dad, Grandparents (yes, generations of volunteers) starting in January and help all the way through the very last day. Many volunteers take their vacation during Auction so that they can be here for the entire time. It's an amazing group of individuals who are truly a family. They are dedicated to the Auction and NHPTV and have welcomed new leadership and changes with unwavering dedication. They are most deserving of this recognition!
