2011 DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD
Carole Sibel
Nominated by Robert Shuman
President, Maryland Public Television
Ask members of the MPT staff or fellow volunteers who have worked alongside Carole Sibel and one finds she has made a singular impression:
“Anyone who has anything to do with Carole Sibel on any committee would say she is positively hands-down amazing,’ says one volunteer colleague with an expression of wide-eyed admiration. “She is the ultimate professional volunteer; she exudes passion; she’s like a one-person PR operation and fundraiser. When she believes in something, she really believes. She takes that enthusiasm to other people and makes them care—makes them enthusiastic.”
Carol Sibel is involved in a variety of community causes, including Maryland Public Television (MPT), community arts, and education. Some wonder how Carol manages so much. “She is such an asset that a lot of us almost don’t want other people to know because we want to keep her for ourselves. Whatever the challenge is, she is ready to help and inspires others to help out,” says a representative of a local Arts High School.
Carole serves as Vice Chair of the MPT Foundation Board, and anyone with whom she has worked at MPT agrees she raises the bar for others and is an unsurpassed champion of MPT.
“She is extremely creative, and there is not a CEO, Marketing Director or Corporate Social Responsibility officer anywhere in our area who would say no to a project on which Carole has put her imprimatur, and she puts her energy behind projects that truly benefit the community and MPT,” said MPT President Robert J. Shuman.
Carol is one of the most well known community volunteers in Baltimore. She has raised money for hospitals, all the major arts institutions, and some smaller up-and-coming ones. She has done the same for MPT.
“In 1999 Carol chaired a gala to mark MPT’s 30th anniversary, raising $250,000. Ten years later in economically depressed 2009, she headed the MPT gala to celebrate MPT’s 40th anniversary, and the event raised $450, 000” according to MPT Vice President Joe Krushinsky. “Some of her fellow board members said it couldn’t be done, and then watched her do it! She has a no-nonsense style, and she raises amazing amounts of money in community.”
Another grateful MPT staff member added, “She is so effective and yet, no task is too large or too small. When MPT was planning the 40th anniversary gala for 700 people, we did not have a staff for that. Carol participated in any tasks that were necessary including taking hours and hours to help write invitations by hand.”
Public Television in Maryland is very fortunate to have the benefit of Carol’s energy, commitment, leadership and generosity working on behalf of our public service media efforts.
