2006 VOLUNTEER MANAGEMENT AWARD
Presented to Lisa Napier
WNED / BUFFALO
Nomination Narrative:
I am pleased to nominate WNED’s Volunteer Manager, Lisa Napier, for the NFPB Achievement Award in Volunteer Management.
In her demanding role, Lisa serves as motivator, teacher, administrator and consultant. The fact that 1,000 individuals find meaningful and engaging volunteer opportunities with WNED is largely due to Lisa’s efforts.
WNED serves two distinct but connected communities (Western New York/Buffalo Niagara and Southern Ontario/Toronto). Lisa has shown exemplary efforts in matching the diverse interests of volunteers in both regions with our needs in public broadcasting. She understands and embraces the mission of public broadcasting and is able to translate her passion to volunteers. She adeptly balances volunteer advocacy with a strong allegiance to the corporate mission and dedication to quality services.
Recently promoted to manager, Lisa previously served as Volunteer Coordinator, when she single handedly met the challenge of filling more than 5,000 volunteer slots annually. These extensive recruitment efforts have allowed WNED to conduct membership campaigns for both television and radio, and host The Great TV Auction, the WNED Buffalo/Niagara Guitar Festival and other events.
Beyond the station, Lisa is a recognized and active leader in her field. To help other community nonprofits, Lisa co-launched the first Buffalo/Niagara Volunteer Fair, held at the WNED headquarters building. This successful networking event facilitated awareness and interaction between a broad array of volunteer-driven organizations and community members interested in volunteering.
In addition, Lisa has contributed her expertise as a consultant to organizations launching volunteer programs. She routinely shares innovative recruitment ideas through workshops and presentations. She also serves on the advisory board of the Erie County Retired Senior Volunteer Program and is a member of the Volunteer Administrators of Western New York.
Lisa Napier well deserves this prestigious award.
