1993 DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD
Presented to Louise Phillips
Louisiana Public Broadcasting
Louise is that special kind of devoted volunteer who works hard at the non-glamorous tasks needed to keep a broadcasting system running. Her dedication could be compared to the wooden stand behind a set that keeps the walls up, but is never seen. That stand is essential to holding everything together, even if no one sees it.
She first started volunteering in 1983 by helping with mailing. After envelope stuffing, she served as the volunteer receptionist in the front lobby. When a full-time employee was hired, she progressed to entering data into the computer.
She does whatever is needed every week and also volunteers at the public radio station. Louise truly epitomizes the driving, unseen force of Friends groups around the nation.
