1992 VOLUNTEERS IN FUNDRAISING AWARD

The Friends of WXXI integrated WXXI's mission of promoting programming and fund raising with the 21 Country Weekend.  It involved a weekend quilt show, lecture and workshops by Georgia Bonesteel, the hostess of LAP QUILTING.  Over 160 volunteers worked on the planning committee, assisted at the workshops and designed, created and raffled a quilt.  ,ore than $5,000 was raised for support of WXXI.

Over 500 guests visited the studio to see the quilt show and became acquainted with radio and television facilities.  For the first time, seven area quilt clubs worked together to support a community organization.  In recognition of their efforts, representatives of the clubs were invited to dine with Georgia Bonesteel.  WXXI responded to the quilters interest by providing a second series on quilting, THE GREAT AMERICAN QUILTS.

The 21 Country Weekend was a major success in outreach, visibility and fundraising for WXXI.
