Renee Crown is a volunteer in the most professional sense of the word. For over ten years, she ha given her time, energy, direction, leadership and guidance to America's most-watched public television station, WTTW/Chicago.
As a member of the WTTW's Board of Trustees, Mrs. Crown has spent endless hours writing letters, visiting prospects, making phone calls and hosting events to increase support from foundations, corporation, and individual major donors. Through her leadership, the number of individual major donors has grown from 100 in 1982 to nearly 1,000 in 1992.
Mrs. Crown successfully led WTTW through two milestone anniversary celebrations, the 30th and 35th celebrations. Because of her extraordinary recruiting and fundraising efforts, both celebrations were completely underwritten and were financial successes. Each raised over $40,000. Renee Crown did not just give her name to these projects, she personally fulfilled many of the tasks usually performed by committees.
Because of her outstanding leadership and personal commitment to public broadcasting in Chicago and to volunteering as a profession, the National Friends of Public Broadcasting is honoring Renee Crown with this award.
