1991 OUTSTANDING PUBLIC BROADCASTING VOLUNTEER
Presented to Gerard "Stormy" Kempermann
WMVS/WMTV
Milwaukee, Wisconsin
"Stormy" Kempermann can be described as hardworking, dedicated, organized, committed, enthusiastic and indefatigable. Volunteering for over 1,000 hours last year, Stormy was involved in every special event conducted by the Friends of Channel 10/36, Milwaukee and is a member of the Auction Cabinet.
He did all the accounting work for the annual Horse Show, and co-chaired the set-up committee for the Beer Tasting and Wine Tasting Parties. Twice this committee transformed a major suburban Milwaukee shopping mall into a setting for the station fund-raisers in 90 minutes! The combined revenue for these two events was about $50,000. Stormy also worked with a small group of volunteers to organize the Outdoor Wisconsin Banquet which raised $24,000.
His major job this year was Chairman of Major Gifts for the Auction. The Channel 10 Auction is the largest net producing auction in public broadcasting. Stormy, by himself, was responsible for cataloguing, scheduling, pre-taping and storing more than 200 major gifts. In addition, he organized and wrote the script for the 30-minute major gift TV program televised before the auction.
This listing merely touches the activities Stormy performs for Channel 10/36. Only in the past year has he kept a semi-accurate time sheet of his volunteer hours. Over the years, they have amounted to thousands. Stormy's involvement is summarized by his daily question, "OK, What do you need?"
