Presented to Volunteer Friends of Channel 8
KAET, Tempe, Arizona
The KAET Poll originated in August of 1990. This public opinion survey of registered Arizona voters was designed to determine public sentiment regarding civic and political issues facing the state.
Volunteers were carefully trained and supervised as they called voters from a computer generated random sample list. They asked questions compiled by an expert poller. Discussions of the fourteen polls were held on KAET's HORIZON program. Results were also published in dozens of media stories. The KAET poll established itself as one of the most frequently quoted and most respected barometers of public opinion in Arizona. Thousands of interviews have been conducted by the Volunteer Friends of Channel 8 since the poll originated.
Since January 1992, the poll has been conducted monthly by twenty-eight volunteers who poll for two days a month. Between 400-500 interviews are completed for each poll.
Such a successful effort by volunteers deserves the merit of this award.
