VOLUNTEERS IN FUNDRAISING AWARD
1991: PRESENTED TO WSFP
DINO-MIGHT! WSFP's exhibit showcasing eleven life-like robotic dinosaurs and Southwest Florida's Public Broadcasting's major fundraiser, took three years to plan and execute. Over 75 volunteers worked on all aspects of the project: soliciting sponsorships, advertising and promotion, preparing financial analysis, creating art work and sending press releases. They also painted, built walls and shelving and helped create the monstrous mountain that showcased the dinosaurs. When the exhibit opened, volunteers provided tours, took tickets and assisted in the gift shop.
The main goal of the project was to raise funds for Southwest Florida Public Broadcasting and that goal was achieved by raising over $300,000. However, due to its educational value, DINO-MIGHT! was also a very entertaining and enlightening community event. Over 70,000 people experienced the "Age of the Dinosaur" in a 3.5 month period including 30,000 children on school field trips.
DINO-MIGHT! was a clear example of a station-wide effort using the skills and creativity of a well-organized group of volunteers and achieving very positive results.
