On February 9, 1991, KLRU presented the Austin City Limits Sixteenth Season Celebration with a production of Garth Brooks and Kathy Mattea in Concert. This major fund-raising gala attracted 750 table guests and 6,000 concert tickets were sold.
Under the leadership of Randie Frasier, 158 volunteers decorated, ushered, directed traffic, and acted as security for the stars and host. Finding a location large enough and appropriate for a winter event was the challenge, and open-air livestock arena was selected to serve as the concert site. The Gala Committee did such an incredible job of pre-selling tables that most were taken when invitations were sent.
The event netted $173,000 for KLRU, the largest amount ever raised for a non-profit agency in Austin by a single event. The combination of leadership, dedication and hard work ensured that the evening was a successful fund-raising effort.
