On election night, 1990, approximately 80 KET volunteers in 70 of 120 Kentucky counties provided local election results, via phone, to KET's production "Election Night 90." In addition, there were five remote interview sites set up throughout the state. These volunteers also tabulated the local results for use by the producer for on-air updates and crawl information.
Volunteers worked with their county clerks to prepare for the project and had telephones installed in each of the county court houses. In addition to statewide Friends and network center volunteers, high school students from an American government class staffed five K.E.W.S. lines providing contact with remote reporting sites.
KET volunteers not only gave of their time and talents, but hundreds of volunteer hours were recorded and applied toward a CPB Community Service Grant.
